In case you missed it yesterday, the 51st Annual Grammy Awards took place in Los Angeles. Per usual stars begging for attention (which can be noted with people like Katy Perry pairing up for pictures with human blueberries…a.k.a a pregnant M.I.A.) and actual nominees threw on their most expensive push up draw and put on the most ravishing and, of course, horrifying outfits to give us one of the nights that a lot of people look forward to after watching sports or “The Simpsons.”
The unlikely pairing of Robert Plant and Alison Krauss that produced the hit album “Raising Sand” won five Grammys on Sunday including album of the year.
“Raising Sand,” produced by T Bone Burnett, bested fellow nominees Lil Wayne, Ne-Yo, Coldplay and Radiohead. Their “Please Read the Letter” also won record of the year.
Lil Wayne — who led the field with eight nominations — won three awards, including best rap album for “Tha Carter III,” for which he literally hopped on stage to receive.
Coldplay also took home three awards, including best rock album for “Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends.”
Among the unseen awards was a posthumous award for George Carlin in the comedy album category for “It’s Bad for Ya,” a recording of his final HBO comedy special. Al Gore — adding to his extensive awards tally — won for the audio book of his “An Inconvenient Truth.”
Following the Super Bowl, it was Hudson’s second major performance since her mother, brother and nephew were killed in October. Hudson’s self-titled disc also won best R&B album.
All in all, the whole thing in retrospect played out like the senior prom season finale of some drama filled show a teenage girl would gush over with her friends the day after. And then, at the same time, it was just another awards show.
