Ed McMahon Raps on Financial Woes

September 26, 2008

Ed McMahon’s next appearance in the media world won’t be as a dried up poor loser, but get, this, a rapper.  Appearing in a couple of commercials about credit ratings, Ed takes off his formal tie and suit to don a funky-looking jumper.

Charles Harris, senior vice president of marketing for FreeCreditReport.com, said his company got the idea after watching McMahon appear on the “Larry King Live” TV talk show this summer when he discussed his foreclosure problem and took the blame for not managing his debt better.

“We thought right away this is somebody whom anybody can relate to,” Harris said, adding that portraying the 85-year-old as a rapper was consistent with the company’s use of humor in previous ads.

Yes, I can totally related to that guy.  I mean, who hasn’t been old, filthy rich, and then gone bankrupt?  I suppose what they’re kinda going for is that if most of us were given the opportunity to have money, money, and more money, we’d probably spend it all in about two months on whores, whores, and more whores…and maybe a nice cheesesteak afterwards.
