I did some half-assed research and learned that flying in a small private aircraft is statistically safer than driving a motorcycle, but not safer than driving a car. Perhaps the investigation will show that there were causes beyond either pilots skill level. Is that reason for not doing it? Absolutely not. There are dangers involved in many activities (i.e. driving, skiing, etc.) - one simply has to learn to adequately manage the danger. By the way, just for the record, Cory's plane was not a jet...it was a piston engine, propeller driven aircraft. I feel bad for his loss, but, he was warned by several people the dangers of flying, especially with so little experience.
